Now aged 87, was the Battalion Intelligence Officer of the 7/9th Royal Scots, and was in Loch Column for the attack on Heinsberg. I vividly remember during Operation Blackcock when with my C.O. on patrol to link up with the 4KOSB we made contact with C Company at Klosterhof Farm and personnaly witnessed the brave action of Lance-Corporal Alexander Leitch despite gravely wounded continued to operated his wireless set to direct fire on the attacking forces to defend and protect his colleagues, and believed then as I do now that his actions were worthy of the Victoria Cross; a very brave and courageous man. I warmly congratulate Har Gootzen and Kevin Connor on their excellent account of the Battle for the Roer Triangle and thank them for providing this definitive history for future generations. I should add that it was my last battle as I was wounded at Heinsberg during the consolidation period and evacuted to the UK.

My father Lieutenant Peter Conrad Fearnley Sander died at Heinsburg on 24 January, 1945. His unit was the 141st Regiment Royal Armoured Corps. (7th Battalion, The Buffs [Royal East Kent Regt.]), and he commanded a Crocodile Tank. Sixty years later, I would be pleased to hear from anyone who was there at the time.

My father's cousin Michael Hughes is buried in Sittard War Cemetary. He was killed on 22 Januaty 1945 and served in the Highland Light Infantry City of Glasgow Regiment, 5th Battalion, aged 25years.

I have recently travelled to Sittard to lay a memorial for Michael. I am interested in finding tour to battlefied etc and I know Michael had friends in Holland and would like to know is there any way of finding out this information. I do have one photograph of Michael with the couple, I believe the man was aslo in the army.

Kind regards

I have been interested in the battle since I visited Sittard War Cemetery. My dsughter lives in Sittard & her father-in-law took me
there some years ago. I did some research on the regiments in the cemetery & found your site, which I think is excellent.
